Stay informed as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) makes improvements to the Loop 202 Santan Freeway. The project is scheduled for completion in 2027.
Major elements of the project include:
- Add two lanes in each direction between Price Rd. and Gilbert Rd.
- Add one lane in each direction between Gilbert Rd. and Val Vista Dr.
- Widen Loop 202 freeway entrance and exit ramps
- Widen bridges over Arizona Ave., Union Pacific Railroad and Consolidated Canal
Starting in 2025, each of the freeway entrance and exit ramps will close for up to 60 consecutive days to widen the ramps. ADOT will stagger this work to avoid closing consecutive freeway entrance or exit ramps in the same direction.
Ramps connecting the Loop 101 and Loop 202 freeways also will close for up to 15 consecutive days as improvements are made.
Traffic Restrictions
Work to widen freeway entrance and exit ramps will close the following ramps for 60 days:
- Eastbound Loop 202 entrance ramp at Cooper Rd. is now closed.
- Eastbound Loop 202 exit ramp at Gilbert Rd. will close on Jan. 21.
- Westbound Loop 202 entrance ramp at Gilbert Rd. will close on Feb. 9.
- Westbound Loop 202 exit ramp at Cooper Rd. will close on Feb. 26.
- Westbound Loop 202 entrance ramp at Val Vista Dr. will close on Mar. 13.
Arizona Avenue will be narrowed to two lanes in each direction for several months as the Loop 202 bridges are widened. Cooper Road will be narrowed to two lanes in each direction from Jan. 6 through Jan. 19.
