Stay informed as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) makes improvements to the Loop 202 Santan Freeway. The project is scheduled for completion in 2027.

Major elements of the project include:

  • Add two lanes in each direction between Price Rd. and Gilbert Rd.
  • Add one lane in each direction between Gilbert Rd. and Val Vista Dr.
  • Widen Loop 202 freeway entrance and exit ramps
  • Widen bridges over Arizona Ave., Union Pacific Railroad and Consolidated Canal

Starting in 2025, each of the freeway entrance and exit ramps will close for up to 60 consecutive days to widen the ramps. ADOT will stagger this work to avoid closing consecutive freeway entrance or exit ramps in the same direction. 

Ramps connecting the Loop 101 and Loop 202 freeways also will close for up to 15 consecutive days as improvements are made. 

Traffic Restrictions

Loop 202 Santan Freeway:

  • The right lane of the eastbound Loop 202 is being closed nightly at Price Road from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Sunday, Feb. 16, and ending the morning of Friday, Feb. 21. The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Price Road also will be closed during the overnight hours.
  • The eastbound Loop 202 HOV lane and the two left lanes along westbound Loop 202 between Dobson and Alma School Roads will be closed 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20.

At Price Road:

  • The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Price Road is being closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Sunday, Feb. 16, and ending the morning of Friday, Feb. 21.

At Gilbert Road:

  • The westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) on-ramp at Gilbert Road remains closed through approximately early April for ramp reconstruction.
  • The eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) off-ramp at Gilbert Road remains closed through approximately the end of March for ramp reconstruction.
  • Northbound Gilbert Road has a right lane closure at the Loop 202 until 11 p.m. Saturday, March 1.

At Cooper Road: 

  • The westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Cooper Road will be closed for 60 days beginning at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 for ramp reconstruction. 
  • The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Cooper Road remains closed through approximately the end of March for ramp reconstruction.
  • Northbound Cooper Road will have a left lane closure at Loop 202 from 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, to 11 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27.
