Each season, the City of Chandler seeks reliable, dedicated, hard-working individuals to become part of our aquatics team.
We offer a variety of positions. They are part-time, temporary positions, and applicants must be 15 years old or older. Due to year-round aquatic programs, you must be available to work from January through December. During the “peak” season (May through July), employees may have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week. In the “off-peak” season (August through April), hours may vary from 5 to 20 hours per week.
All candidates offered employment with the City of Chandler are expected to work during the school year.

Our Lifeguard I position responsibilities include monitoring public use of aquatic and swimming areas, rule enforcement, emergency response, and cleaning and maintaining facilities. Work opportunities include summertime peak hours of 20-40 hours and off-season hours of 5-20 hours.
The starting hourly rate is $17.79 (as of Jan. 2025)
The Lifeguard II position encompasses all the duties of a Lifeguard I, with the additional responsibilities of instructing. As a swim lesson instructor, you will teach 2-3 sessions of lessons in the summer, ranging from 2-4 hours a day, with up to 10 participants for each class. Work opportunities include summertime peak hours ranging from 20-40 hours and off-season hours ranging from 5-20 hours, with lessons offered year-round.
The starting hourly rate is $18.67 (as of Jan. 2025).
The Head lifeguard is responsible for teaching lifeguarding skills and leading the lifeguard team through role modeling and mentorship. This role involves performing general maintenance tasks and reporting any concerns to management to ensure a safe environment. Additionally, the head lifeguard opens and secures facilities as needed and assists in addressing inquiries and resolving patron complaints. A key aspect of the position is teaching the junior lifeguard course during the summer.
The starting hourly rate is $19.63 (as of Jan. 2025).
Assists the Head Swim Coach with overseeing the operations of a recreational swim team program, including, but not limited to, scheduling, training, and evaluating swim team practices and coaches. This position is also responsible for providing feedback to swimmers and staff, assisting with skill development and skill execution, and guiding swim team practice and swim meets. Assistant swim coaches also provide instruction and motivation for swim team participants.
The starting hourly pay is $19.63 (as of Jan 2025).
Oversees the operations of a recreation swim team program, including, but not limited to, training swim team coaches, organizing swim meets, and developing swim practices for up to three age groups. This position is also responsible for providing feedback about skill execution and guiding skill development during swim team practice and swim meets. A Head Swim Coach also provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for swim team participants.
The starting hourly rate is $24.21 (as of Jan. 2025).
Head Pool Manager
The Head Pool Manager oversees the daily operations of an aquatic facility. They set goals and objectives, manage schedules, and evaluate the performance of their assigned staff. This role includes facilitating training, addressing issues with staff and the patrons, and conducting interviews. Additionally, the manager monitors the pool filtration system, oversees instructional and exercise programs at their site, and ensures the safety of staff and visitors by implementing and enforcing safety measures while also inspecting, maintaining, and replacing equipment as needed.
The starting rate for a Head Pool Manager is $25.89 (as of Jan. 2025).
Assistant Pool Manager
The Assistant Pool Manager supports the Pool Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the aquatics center. They open and close the facility, prepare reports, assign staff duties, and approve schedule changes. This role involves providing technical guidance, prioritizing, and assigning work, training staff, and ensuring quality and timely completion of duties. The assistant also tracks pool chemicals, trains, and mentors staff through in-service activities, and responds to internal and external inquiries.
The starting rate for an Assistant Pool Manager is $24.21 (as of Jan. 2025).

Our Chandler swim instructors use the Starfish Swimming program. This program streamlines the learning process with an emphasis on water safety. Starfish Swimming focuses on self-recovery and stroke development through tangible milestones.

Chandler Aquatic’s recreational Swim Team is a great way to introduce talented swimmers to a friendly, competitive atmosphere that’s safe, fun, and exciting. Chandler offers three swim seasons per year: Spring, Summer, and Fall. The hiring time frame for head coach and assistant coach is from March through April.
