Downtown Chandler Improvements Projects (ST2203.101)
The City of Chandler is currently in construction for three important projects for improvements to Downtown Chandler.
- Wall Street Improvements
- Boston Street Reconstruction
- Chandler City Hall Parking Lot & Alley Improvements
Work is taking place in the summer/fall 2024 timeframe to be complete before Downtown Chandler’s peak season.
The following information is related to project components and schedules for each of the three projects.
The City of Chandler recently completed design for aesthetic and pedestrian improvements along Wall Street between Chicago Street and Frye Road. As part of the ongoing revitalization south of the Historic Square, Wall Street Improvements (from Chicago Street to Frye Road) will improve and increase pedestrian spaces in Downtown Chandler. Renderings of the planned improvements are provided below.
The intersection of the parking area off Arizona Avenue and Wall Street is currently closed through Wednesday, Sept. 25, for crews to complete work in this area. Please do not permit staff or patrons to travel through this area as it is an active construction zone.
Work on the concrete valley gutter, festoon lighting, trash enclosures and subsurface preparation is expected to be complete this week with asphalt paving currently scheduled for Monday, Sept. 23. Following paving, crews will make any adjustments to utilities to make them flush with the new asphalt surface for Wall Street to be opened.
Currently being scheduled sometime in the next couple of weeks (based on subcontractor availability), the asphalt pavement will be “stamped” to provide an additional aesthetic. The stamping process takes a couple of days and requires the asphalt to be heated and then a template applied to result in a permanent indentation in the asphalt. During this process, Wall Street will be closed for the stamping and curing of asphalt, and the contractor is making every effort to schedule this with the minimum impact to upcoming events.
Once the stamping is complete, crews will open Wall Street once again with the only remaining features to install being the planter boxes and the monument sign at Chicago, both of which are long lead items, given the busy construction industry across the nation. Planter boxes are approximately 5 weeks out, and the monument sign is approximately 7-9 weeks out and, when available, planter boxes will be installed and there may be a brief restriction at Chicago Street as the monument sign is installed. We’ll do our best to provide information in advance of that work taking place.
As the primary work on Wall Street nears completion, we thank you for your patience during this work.

The City of Chandler has contracted with Sunland Asphalt to construct improvements to Boston Street, between San Marcos Place and California Street. Improvements include full asphalt and subsurface removal and replacement as well as widening sidewalks on the north side of Boston, east of Oregon Street, and on the south side of Boston, west of Oregon Street, with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and pedestrian crosswalk improvements, and a ride share/drop off area, and were completed during the summer 2024.
Work is nearing completion on the City Hall Parking Lot area with final adjustments, light poles, and any punchlist work taking place this week. It’s expected the City Hall Parking Lot and Boston Alley will be open the week of Sept. 23. We thank you for your patience during construction!
