CHANDLER, Ariz. – A street project, funded by Chandler’s Special Bond Election, is now in the design phase. Chandler City Council awarded a Professional Services Agreement to AZTEC Engineering Group, Inc., for the Cooper Road/Insight Way Loop Extension Design Services, in an amount not to exceed $699,272.18.
In Nov. 2021, voters authorized the issuance of bonds to fund capital projects planned in the 10-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The Cooper Road/Insight Way Loop Extension project was one of the highest rated projects by bond subcommittees and was added to the 2022-2032 CIP.
This project has significant implications for transportation, economic development and aviation. The new road will significantly improve the development prospects of the south side of Chandler Municipal Airport, in furtherance of the City Council-approved Airport Master Plan. This project will include a new southern entrance to the Chandler Airport for access to future development and hangars.
A pre-design study recommended improvements including a full-width roadway segment connecting Cooper Road (north of Queen Creek Road) to the Insight Way and Emmett Drive intersection, as well as half-street improvements on Emmett Drive south to Queen Creek Road. The roads will be improved to a collector street standard, including asphalt pavement, curb, gutter, sidewalk, streetlights, landscaping and utility relocations.
Once the design process is complete, construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2025.
