CHANDLER, Ariz. — ‘Tis the season! The City of Chandler’s Golden Neighbors program is hosting a free holiday gathering for senior residents from 9–11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Tumbleweed Recreation Center, Cotton Room, 745 E. Germann Road.
Join the city’s Neighborhood Resources Department to celebrate the holidays with a hot breakfast, entertainment and holiday gifts. Chandler residents planning to attend are asked to RSVP online at Golden Neighbors. Attendees also may call 480-782-4362, or email Neighborhood Programs to register.
The public also may contribute to the Golden Neighbor gift list by purchasing a gift directly from the event’s Amazon Wish List that’s available online at Golden Neighbors. The public also may purchase a gift on their own and drop it off at the city’s Neighborhood Resources Department, 235 S. Arizona Ave. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Gifts will be accepted through Monday, Dec. 16.
In addition to providing seniors with a holiday celebration, the Department also provides a holiday shopping opportunity for its youth living in Chandler’s public housing via its Site Bucks Store.
The city’s Public Housing Youth Site Bucks Store is an incentive program for housing youth to earn “site bucks” from positive behavior or actively participating in the after-school program, finishing homework or being involved in community events. The earned site bucks can then be used to purchase items from the store such as school supplies, toys, clothing and more.
During the holidays, the Site Bucks Store turns into a place where kids may purchase gifts for their parents and siblings. The deadline to donate to this unique holiday store is Monday, Dec. 16. You may purchase items directly from an Amazon Wish List, purchase a gift/gift card of your choice and drop it off at the city’s Housing and Redevelopment Office, 235 S. Arizona Ave.
