CHANDLER, Ariz. – Chandler City Council took the next step to create the city’s newest park, Mesquite Groves.
On Jan. 11, Chandler City Council approved a professional services agreement to J2 Engineering & Environmental Design, LLC, for Mesquite Groves Park Design Concept Services, in an amount not to exceed $155,042.
In 2002, the City of Chandler purchased 100 acres on the northwest corner of Val Vista Drive and Riggs Road for the development of a future community park, Mesquite Groves. In 2008, the Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center (5901 S. Hillcrest Drive) was constructed on approximately 10 acres of the park site. As the population in southeast Chandler has increased, the city identified the need for additional recreational facilities to serve the residents in this area. The Parks Strategic Master Plan in 2021 also identified the development of Mesquite Groves Park as a high priority and was one of the most requested items in a resident survey.
This design project will review and update the existing master plan, created in 2009, and allow for public input, consistent with all Chandler park development and renovation projects. Public meetings will help ensure that the ideas, issues and concerns from residents are taken into consideration. The public input process is expected to begin in spring 2024. The Mesquite Groves Park project will be designed and constructed in three phases, which will be determined as part of this conceptual design phase.
