Narcan Leave Behind Kits

The Opioid Response Program also provides NARCAN® Leave Behind kits supplied by the Arizona Department of Health Services. These kits contain two doses of NARCAN® or Naloxone, as well as resources for the treatment and support of opioid addiction.

These kits are left with individuals or their families, friends, or other support systems to provide life-saving measures in the event of an opioid overdose. These kits are provided at no cost to the community and can also be requested if needed.

If you require opioid resources, including a NARCAN® Leave Behind Kit, please complete the Opioid Support form, contact us at 480-782-2327 or email Opioid Help.

In 2024, the City of Chandler and Chandler Fire Department created an Opioid Response Program utilizing funds from the One Arizona Agreement. The Opioid Response Program is managed by one full-time staff member trained in evidence-based substance use treatment models, patterns of substance use, withdrawal symptoms, and treatment options to effectively educate and counsel clients. While the unit is housed within the Chandler Fire Department, the Program works diligently with other city departments to ensure continuity of care and treatment across the community.

In conjunction with the Opioid Response Program, the city has developed critical partnerships with two community-based organizations, Recovery Café Arizona and EMPACT-Suicide Prevention Center, to provide opioid treatment and prevention services. The Recovery Café offers a peer-recovery center model that offers recovery coaching sessions, recovery circles, and educational opportunities through the School of Recovery to Chandler residents. EMPACT-Suicide Prevention Center utilizes two evidence-based prevention curricula including “Too Good for Drugs” and “Operation Prevention” to support Chandler youth.

The Opioid Response Program works to provide community members with access to resources and treatment options based on their specific needs. The Program focuses on Public Health Innovation Education, community-wide harm reduction efforts, individualized treatment planning, and follow-up services for 911-generated overdose or substance use-related calls. This unit also partners with local industry service providers to accomplish these goals, including rehabilitation, detox facilities, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), counseling, support groups, outpatient or inpatient care, residential treatment, sober living homes, peer support, and more.

In 2024, the Base Hospital Director at Chandler Regional Medical Center authored a letter of support for the use of a Leave-Behind Naloxone medication program in conjunction with training available through ADHS for the Chandler Fire Department.
