In a Different Key

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The City of Chandler’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division, in collaboration with its Community Services and Police departments, is proud to present a free community screening of the acclaimed documentary “In A Different Key.” This special event will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at the Chandler Center for the Arts, 250 N. Arizona Ave.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book by journalists Caren Zucker and John Donvan, “In A Different Key” explores autism through the compelling journey of a mother who seeks out the first person ever diagnosed with the condition. This documentary explores themes of love, difference, and belonging - exposing a startling history of cruelty and kindness, but ultimately leads to hope that more communities are supportive of people on the spectrum. This movie is recommended for audiences aged 15 and older due to its sensitive content.

The screening is free, however, attendees must register online at In A Different Key. Space is limited. Doors open at 1 p.m. for the public to engage with several local organizations dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families.

The screening will start promptly at 2 p.m. (98-minute runtime), followed by a panel discussion to share valuable insights on autism and local resources for support. Confirmed panelists include:

  • Dr. Todd Levine - Neurologist, Phoenix Children’s Hospital
  • Bennett Slette - 16-year-old student/autistic person
  • Officer Erin O’Bryan - Behavioral Health Unit, Chandler Police
  • Blas Minor - Battalion Chief, Chandler Fire
