Chandler employee honored as Beth McDonald Woman of the Year

CHANDLER, Ariz. — Misty Gustafson, Chandler’s homeless programs supervisor, was named the 2023 Beth McDonald Woman of the Year. Gustafson and other nominees were honored at a banquet hosted by iHeartMedia’s 99.9 KEZ and Shea Homes held on Feb. 28.

During the year an outstanding woman is honored each month and from the 12 nominees, one is selected as Woman of the Year. As the winner, Gustafson was presented with a $7,500 cash prize from Shea Homes.  

Gustafson has been with the City of Chandler for four years and manages Chandler’s homeless outreach and non-congregate shelter programs. She has overcome homelessness and addiction successfully breaking the cycle of generational addiction and poverty making a better life for herself, her husband and adopted daughter. 

“The challenges I’ve overcome are the same challenges faced by the people I’m trying to help in Chandler,” said Gustafson. “Now six years clean and sober, I can relate to those I’m trying to help I’ve been to prison and have experienced homelessness. My team and I help our clients get off the streets and connect to services to help make their lives better.”

Gustafson was nominated by her husband and accepted the award surrounded by her family, mentor and work family.
