Nature of Things - Backpacking for Newbies

Have you considered backpacking in Arizona? Backpacking is the best way to engage with nature while leaving minimal impact for anywhere from an overnight trip to several nights at a time. This program will cover the basics for beginner backpackers; essential gear, how to pack and wear a backpack, tips for planning a first trip, safety tips and why you shouldn’t be afraid to be in nature, and "leave no trace" backcountry principles. We'll cover some great backpacking trails in Arizona, as well!
Brought to you by Chandler Nature Center and Chandler Library, The Nature of Things is a conversation series featuring contemporary topics in science, conservation and the natural world around us. If you are interested in local ecosystems and Arizona's cultural and natural heritage, this speaker series is for you!
