As part of the City’s long-term goal to foster a culture that embraces unity, Chandler’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion division and Human Relations Commission offer mini-grants of up to $1,000 to teachers, schools, nonprofit organizations and community groups to use towards celebrating and educating about diversity.
In October of last year, CTA Liberty Elementary School celebrated its 20 Year Anniversary with a celebration of their culture, funded by the City’s Diversity Education Mini-Grant.
CTA-Liberty was founded in 2002, on the principle that parents and staff would work together as partners to provide an education that encourages students to achieve academic excellence to the best of their abilities. CTA-Liberty introduced the first Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program within the Chandler Unified School District in 2015, with the goals of promoting biliteracy, cultural awareness, and global citizenship. This program has seen great success ever since its origination, and it will continue to prosper at CTA-Liberty.
To honor its 20 Year Anniversary, the school celebrated its diversity, culture, and success over the past two decades with performances from its own students as well as members of the community. With performances from student groups including Liberty’s Voices and Liberty Cheer Team, as well as performances from Instituto de Folklorico Mexicano and the Mariachi Continental Azteca, it was a fun-filled night with plenty of entertainment and celebration. The community also got to hear from various special guests and Liberty’s Student Council President at this event. A rich selection of food trucks also helped the families and students further immerse themselves in the diverse culture of their school.
