Council met in a Work Session earlier this week to receive a report on the Chandler Airpark Area Plan Update.
The Chandler Airpark Area Plan was approved & adopted in 1998 to strategically guide future development within the area surrounding the municipal airport. Utilizing Council’s updated Strategic Framework, staff and a hired consultant reevaluated the plan and conducted outreach for community input on the plan. The Airpark Area and greater Chandler community was engaged through online activities and meetings that included:
- Focus groups and 1:1 meetings with area stakeholders
- Community Survey
- Project Website
- Community Meetings
- Presentations to the City of Chandler Planning and Zoning Commission and the Airport Commission
The Chandler Airpark is a great opportunity to link Chandler’s growth with innovation—with a goal of encouraging high-quality developments that are attractive to innovative economic sectors such as high-technology, aviation high-technology, research and development and healthcare. It is forecasted that the Airpark Area will produce 12,600 new jobs by 2055.
In addition, the updated Airpark Area Plan Update will promote safe and efficient bicycle and pedestrian facilities to provide for more non-vehicular travel.
After incorporating Council feedback from this Work Session, the final plan will be presented to the Airport Commission, Planning and Zoning Commission and then back to City Council in October.
