In collaboration with Mesa United Way and Azura, the VITA program provides free tax preparation to low- and moderate-income taxpayers whose household income is less than $67,000, seniors, veterans, and those with disabilities.
Chandler’s 2024 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program prepared 1,584 tax returns for low- to moderate-income individuals and families, including elderly, veteran, and disabled taxpayers. This resulted in more than $1.7 million in tax refunds and a savings of $792,000 in tax preparation fees to the members of the community who needed it the most. The refunds may not have been received without the help of more than 63 dedicated volunteers who invested 2,880 hours assisting these families. The number of returns represents a 22% increase over the previous year.

How Do I Get My Taxes Completed With the VITA Program?
Select a VITA location that fits your schedule and needs. To find a site please visit, Site Locations.
Prior to arriving at the tax site please ensure you have your government-issued ID, social security card for you and any dependents, and all your tax documents. To get a complete list of items please visit, Prepare for Your Appointment.
When you arrive at the site check in with the client coordinator. You will be asked to complete the intake paperwork. To save time on site you have the option to download and complete the intake paperwork prior to arriving. The intake paperwork can be found at Prepare for Your Appointment.
After your intake paperwork is completed, you will meet with one of our volunteers to review your documentation. We want to ensure that we have all the information needed to complete and accurate tax return.
Your return will then be prepared by a certified tax preparer and independently quality-reviewed.
A team member will review your Federal and State Tax Returns with you. If you are married and filing jointly, both spouses will need to be present to review the return. We will then E-file your tax return with the IRS and your state of residency.
Your visit to our tax site can take 1-2 hours, so please be patient with our volunteers.
