The primary function of an employee in this class is to work closely with IT Project Managers, City department managers, departmental project designees, and IT Management team to manage and track citywide IT projects. This position also has responsibility for maintenance, review, and resolution of operational issues and system failures through routine audits.

Supervises, plans, and directs the activities of the Project Office and staff, identifying projects, potential risks, scope, resource requirements, timeframes, cost, and status according to established project management methodology;
Communicates project status through monthly reports to IT Management Team and City departmental project designees, explaining implementation, maintenance, and project timelines and costs;
Resolves operational problems and system failures by directing or performing system audits, analyzing the issues, and developing a clear resolution;
Assures overall project quality and ensures a timely completion of deliverables;
Monitors project budgets and ensures Project Managers remain on-time and on-budget;
Ensures the adherence of projects to budgetary constraints;
Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
Establishes and facilitates IT committees as requested;
Attends meetings and training sessions or reads relevant manuals to keep current on new developments in system operation, software or information management;
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance City policies and procedures;
Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions. Follows City-wide safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the City's Safety Handbook.

This position reports to the Chief Information Officer.
This position supervises professional and technical information technology staff.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field; and
Eight (8) to ten (10) years progressively responsible experience of project management in a computer related environment with at least three (3) years supervisory experience; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
The primary duties of the position are performed in a general office environment.
