Help for Homeowners event targets foreclosures

Families at risk of losing their homes to foreclosure can obtain free counseling and meet with bank representatives and mortgage companies by attending the Help for Homeowners Community Event being held from 1 to 8 p.m., Thursday July 19, at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel, 340 N. Third Street, in Phoenix.

Mortgage companies and housing counselors approved by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will be available to meet with struggling homeowners to help them understand their options and identify ways to avoid foreclosure. The event is sponsored by the Making Home Affordable Program through HUD and by HOPE NOW, an industry-created alliance of mortgage servicers, investors, counselors, and other mortgage market participants.

Mortgage companies attending the event include Bank of America, Chase, Citi, GMAC, Wells Fargo/Wachovia, SunTrust, Nationstar, Ocwen Financial, PNC, Select Portfolio Servicing and Homeward Residential (formerly American Home Mortgage Servicing, Inc.)

Local, HUD-approved non-profit counseling organizations will be onsite as well to advise homeowners, plus representatives from HUD, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Loan Scam Alert and the Making Home Affordable Program.
