Temporary Part-Time Jobs
The City of Chandler soon will be seeking
reliable, dedicated, hard working
individuals to become part of our
aquatics team. We will be looking for
part-time employees, ages 15
and older to contribute to our
award-winning program.
These positions are temporary
part-time, however, incumbents must
be available to work January through
December due to year-round aquatic
programs. During “peak” season (May –
July), employees have the opportunity to
work 40 hours per week. In the “off-peak”
season (August – April) hours may vary
from 5-20 hours per week.
All candidates
offered employment with the City of
Chandler are expected to work during the
school year.

Certification Courses
Resident registration will begin
November 3, 2013.
Nonresident registration began
November 9, 2013.
Acceptance of a student's registration form
for the certification classes does not
necessarily mean participation in the class.
Students must successfully pass all
required written or water skills test to take
part in class.
Certification will be determined after
students have successfully completed all
required water skills and written exams.
Failure to pass final skills tests and
written exams does not allow for refunds.
Participants are responsible for acquiring
their own American Red Cross Lifeguarding
Manual and pocket mask ($15) prior to the
first day of class.
Participants are responsible for acquiring
their own American Red Cross Swimming
and Water Safety Manual & Water Safety
Instructor Manual prior to the first day of
class.
CERTIFICATION CLASS REFUND /
CANCELLATION/TRANSFER POLICY:
--Advanced cancellations: 8 days or more
prior to the start date of the class will be
charged a 50% cancellation fee.
--Cancellations 7 days or less - no refund
will be issued. All transfers must be made
5 days prior to the start of the class.

Lifeguarding
American Red Cross
Teach participants the knowledge and
skills needed to prevent and respond
to aquatic emergencies. The course
content and activities prepare participants
to recognize and respond quickly and
effectively to emergencies and prevent
drowning and injuries.
Upon successful completion, participant
will receive a certificate for
Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED
for the Professional Rescuer:
valid for 2 years.
This is a 30-hour course.
Prerequisites:
• Swim 300 yards continuously
• Tread water for 2 minutes, legs only
• Starting in the water, swim 20 yards
using front crawl or breaststroke,
surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a
10-pound object, return to the surface,
swim 20 yards back to the starting
point with the object and exit the
water without using a ladder or steps,
within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
Must be 15 years of age by the last day
of the class.
Registration for classes will begin
November 2013.

Water Safety Instructor (W.S.I.)
American Red Cross
This course trains instructor candidates
to teach water safety, including the Basic
Water Rescue course, six levels of the
Learn to Swim and Parent and Child
Aquatics.
This is a 43-hour course curriculum, which
includes 5 hours of the F.I.T course, and
8 hours of instructor candidate practical
teaching time.
Prerequisites:
• Demonstrate proficiency in the following
strokes (25 yards): front crawl (freestyle),
back crawl (backstroke), breaststroke,
elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and
butterfly (15 yards);
• Maintain position on back 1 minute in
deep water (float or sculling); tread water
for 1 minute
Must be 16 years of age by the last day
of the class.
Registration for classes will begin
November 2013.

Guard Start Program
Ages 9 to 10
This is a great opportunity to introduce
pre-teens into the Junior Lifeguarding
Program. This program requires
dedication and commitment. Upon
completion of this program, the
participant will receive a certificate and
t-shirt.
One three-week program will be offered
at four of the six aquatic centers.
Enrollment is limited to 10 participants.
To participate in the program, the
following skills must be demonstrated:
• Swim the front crawl for 25 yards
continuously while breathing to the front
or side.
• Tread water for one minute.
• Float on the back for 30 seconds.
• Submerge and swim a distance of 10
feet underwater.
The skills evaluation will occur on the first
day of the program. Participants should
bring a swimsuit and towel for the skills
evaluation and for every class.

Junior Lifeguard Program
Ages 11 to 15
This course will teach water safety
and introduce participants to the
duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard;
however, this course will not certify
anyone to be a lifeguard. Participants will
have an introduction to first aid, and
CPR/AED and build a foundation of
knowledge, attitudes and skills in
preparation for the American Red Cross
Lifeguarding course. Successful
completion requires participation in skills
practice. Enrollment is limited to 15
participants.
To participate in Junior Lifeguarding,
