Incumbents of this class perform clerical tasks of limited difficulty, which require limited judgment in their execution. Work involving varied tasks is given closer supervision than that of the majority of tasks which are more repetitive in nature. A supervisor is immediately available to resolve problems of a non-routine nature. Work is reviewed for results obtained.

Sorts and files material alphabetically or by other predetermined means.
Types routine forms/letter or other documents;
Answers incoming phone calls, providing referrals to other departments or staff as needed;
Operates office equipment such as computer, typewriter, copier, electric stapler, hole-puncher, fax machine, scanner, etc.;
Folds, stuffs and sort letters or informational packets;
Runs errands, picking up or delivering papers or materials;
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures;
Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions. Follows City-wide safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the City's Safety Handbook.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The operation of personal computer and various software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, etc.;
Some knowledge of business English grammar and punctuation.
Modern office practices and procedures.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions
Communicate orally with customers or the public using a telephone or in a face-to-face, one-to-one setting
Make continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements to operate office equipment
Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
The work is performed under the supervision of a department supervisor, manager or superintendent.
High school student or graduate or GED equivalent;
Some experience in performing basic clerical and typing duties; and
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
The primary duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.

Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person;
Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to review documents and file them in a prescribed order, and organize documents and materials;
Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a personal computer and other office equipment;
Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work at a keyboard for an extended period of time in an office environment.
