Support Services
The "stuff" division touches nearly everything Chandler Fire does: from vehicle purchasing and maintenance, to ordering WD40; from building and maintaining fire stations, to supplying toilet paper. If it’s CFD’s, Support Services either buys it, accounts for it, installs it, maintains it, delivers it, serves as its liaison, or provides support for it. We believe that every successful emergency response is a Support Services victory.

This division is responsible for managing programs designed to better protect our community. These programs include:
-
Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT)
This program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
-
Community Programs
Community programs encompass public education, car seat inspections, special events liaison, public information officer, senior volunteer program, fire department museum, and awards. The public education portion of this division is promulgated through a program aimed at educating children about common dangers. This program is known as Urban Survival. This educational effort is supplemented through the use of a small trailer-born house prop. A series of videos titled Sprinkler’s Clubhouse featuring Sprinkler the Clown and his friend Dusty, highlights safety messages aimed at early elementary school-aged children. The community programs division also offers a bureau of speakers to address adults and teens on health and fire safety topics. Station tours and static displays are one of the most popular educational opportunities the department offers. The fire department offers car safety seat inspections almost every Saturday of the year. The Chandler Fire Department maintains a presence at high occupancy special events throughout the year such as the Ostrich Festival and July 4th Celebration. Media requests and media relations are handled through this division in cooperation with the City's Communications and Public Affairs Department (CAPA).
-
Emergency Preparedness
The mission of this unit is to prepare the city and its residents for handling natural or man-made disasters and other large-scale emergencies that may befall and endanger our community. The Emergency Manager is responsible for the City's Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), and the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP). The Emergency Manager also performs vulnerability assessments and preplans for larger facilities, and trains City employees and residents in disaster preparedness.
-
Crisis Response Unit (CR288)
CR288 is comprised of dedicated volunteers and staff members who assist persons with practical or emotional needs following traumatic events. By providing valuable social services, this unit enables Fire and Police personnel to more quickly return to their normal operational duties.
-
Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO)
The TLO is a community resource who works with the Dept. of Homeland Security through the ACTIC - AZ Counter Terrorism Information Center. He/She is trained to assist in major events both natural or man-made, to gather information and disseminate that information to Emergency Responders and the Public in order mitigate the situation and make it safe again. The program is jointly funded through Homeland Security grants. These grants enable the Fire and Police Dept. TLO's to purchase the special equipment needed for this vital function of protecting the community.
-
Fire Prevention Bureau
The bureau's Fire Investigators are some of the most knowledgeable and vigilant prevention specialists/investigators within the Phoenix Metro area. They are responsible for enforcement of the Fire Code, and other City codes and ordinances that pertain to fire and life safety.
