Take the weather by storm at Homeschool Days May 10

Families that homeschool their children are invited to learn about weather phenomena and discover the thrilling meteorological patterns of the Sonoran Desert at Homeschool Days, Thursday, May 10, at the Environmental Education Center (EEC) at Veteran’s Oasis Park, 4050 E. Chandler Heights Road.

Homeschool Days will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and is designed for families to learn together while exploring the environment of the Sonoran Desert and sustainability.

“Through hands-on activities, future forecasters will identify temperatures, wind, precipitation and storms,” said Ariane Francis, a recreation coordinator at the EEC. “They will learn how weather is driven and how and why temperatures differ from polar to tropical regions of the earth.”

The programs are designed for children and youth ages 5 to 17 and offer grade-specific activities that allow students to experience the adventure of learning through inquiry-based activities, investigations and technology.

The cost is $6 for homeschooled children living in Chandler and $9 for non-residents. Accompanying parents, chaperones and spectators attend for free.

To request a reservation for your school, group or homeschooled child, contact Ariane Francis by phone at 480-782-2886, or register at www.chandleraz.gov/registration.
