Chandler City Council to review 2017-18 Budget and Capital Improvement Program

On Thursday, June 8, the City of Chandler will host a public hearing (during a regularly scheduled Council meeting) about the City’s Tentative 2017-18 Budget, the 2018-27 Capital Improvement Program (CIP), and the Property Tax levy for 2017-18, which begins July 1. During the hearing, residents will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed City budget. The meeting starts at 7 p.m., and will be held in the City Council Chambers, 88 E. Chicago St. After the public hearing, the City Council will review and vote on adoption of the 2017-18 final budget and CIP. Council’s vote on adoption of the Property Tax levy will be on June 22.

Many of the services provided to Chandler residents are financed through the General Fund. This fund is used to support many of the services residents rely upon most, including our public safety, police and fire services, libraries, maintenance of city streets, parks, and other infrastructure. General Fund revenues largely come from local City sales tax and state-shared revenues.  Other services are financed through separate self-supporting Utility Funds, which include Water, Wastewater, Airport and Solid Waste services, plus other Special Revenue and Capital Project funds.

The proposed budget is available for review online at chandleraz.gov/budget, and in hard copy at the Downtown Chandler Library, 22 S. Delaware St., and the City Clerk’s Office, 175 S. Arizona Ave.

As part of the budget development process, the City’s Budget Office conducted an online survey of residents in November and December of 2016, and presented the results to Mayor Jay Tibshraeny and the members of the City Council for their consideration. In addition, Budget Connect, an interactive community budget meeting, was held in February to allow for public input. Furthermore, two public budget workshops with Mayor and Council took place in March and April to discuss the upcoming budget. Those presentations, as well as the survey results and video of the Budget Connect presentation, are online for viewing at chandleraz.gov/budget
