Brothers Hypnotic movie posterSpecial Screening of Brothers Hypnotic at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to benefit Chandler Center for the Arts youth programs

Chandler Center for the Arts and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema are partnering for a special screening at 7 p.m., March 9, 2017, of Brothers Hypnotic, an award-winning documentary about the eight sons of jazz legend Phil Cohran.

This screening is free. However, there is no reserved seating at this event; the purchase of a $5 refundable food/beverage voucher guarantees attendees a seat, which is first come, first served. The $5 voucher will be credited to the total food and beverage bill at the end of the evening.

Donations collected during the event will support Connecting Kidz, the Chandler Center for the Arts program that provides young people with the opportunity to experience the magic of the arts.

“We are thrilled by this generous partnership with Alamo Drafthouse,” says Michelle Mac Lennan, General Manager, Chandler Center for the Arts. “Attendees will enjoy a touching movie about the family that makes up the Chicago-based Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, while delighting in delicious food and drinks in an intimate theatre setting.”

“Movies and music are two mediums that are at their very best when they exist together,” says Craig Pascich, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Chandler. “Music is critical to film, which is why we’re excited for the opportunity to host this wonderful film honoring jazz music and, more importantly, cultivate interest in music with youth in Chandler.”

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is located at 4955 S. Arizona Avenue, Chandler. More information about the screening and guaranteeing a seat can be found online at drafthouse.com/phoenix/show/brothers-hypnotic1.

The public can see Hypnotic Brass Ensemble live at Chandler Center for the Arts on March 24. Ticket information at chandlercenter.org.

  • About Brothers Hypnotic
For the eight young men in the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, “brotherhood” is literal; they’re all sons of anti-establishment jazz legend, Phil Cohran. Cohran and their mothers raised them together on Chicago’s South Side on a strict diet of jazz, funk and Black Consciousness. Family band practice began at 6 a.m. Now grown, as they raise eight brass horns to the sky, they make music that is at once indescribably joyful, unremittingly exciting, and undeniably together. But as the brothers try to make their own way in the wide world – while playing in the streets of New York City, collaborating with Mos Def, or wowing a jazz festival – they find the values their father bred into them constantly tested. They must decide whether his principles really are their own. Watch the film trailer here: http://www.hypnoticbrassfilm.com/see-the-film.html
