Chandler names Leah Powell as Neighborhood Resources Director

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Chandler City Manager Marsha Reed announced that Leah Powell has been selected as the City’s Neighborhood Resources Director.

"Leah offers the expertise and relationships to effectively lead our Neighborhood Resources Department," Reed said. "She brings unique knowledge of our community and neighborhoods and will ensure the department continues to deliver outstanding service for Chandler residents."

Powell has been the department’s Community Resources and Diversity Manager since 2009 to administer funds for Chandler neighborhoods and grant programs for non-profit organizations and community groups. She also serves as a liaison to numerous cultural organizations throughout the community. Powell has served as the City’s American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator, Diversity Administrator and as an Assistant to the City Manager during her 20-year career at the City of Chandler.

Powell is a graduate of University of New Mexico (UNM) with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She has earned a certificate in elementary education with a foreign language endorsement in Spanish through UNM Graduate School. She is a certified ADA Coordinator and diversity recruiter.

She will begin her new post on Feb. 6, 2017.

The Neighborhood Resources Department administers community development funds and programs, neighborhood programs, diversity programs and events, neighborhood preservation through code enforcement and, as a Public Housing Authority, manages housing and redevelopment funds and properties.
