New Sister City visits Chandler for Little League Exchange Program

This past August, the Chandler City Council approved a Sister Cities International program exchange with Tainan City, Taiwan. The international relationship first began two years ago when the Tainan National Little League team visited Chandler as part of a Little League exchange program. Last year, Chandler youth went to Tainan.

Now it's time for the Tainan City All-Star team (10 to 11 age group) to return to Chandler, Ariz. The team will arrive on Saturday, Dec. 3. During the week, they have a packed schedule that includes a City Council meeting, a tour of Arizona State University’s baseball program, a Diamondbacks’ stadium tour, and visit to Tarwater Elementary, which has a Mandarin-language immersion program.

The Chandler/Tainan City teams also will play in two exhibition games (Friendship Exhibition) on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Snedigar Sportsplex, 4500 S. Basha Road. An opening ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. to kickoff the games, which will be played at 12:45 and 3:30 p.m. Both games are open to the public.

After the Friendship exhibition games, the students will then head to Tucson and Northern Arizona during the following week before they return home.

In addition, the new Sister City partnership is seeking sponsorships to continue its Little League exchange program and allow for future student exchanges and cultural programming. The sponsorship opportunities range from $25 to $10,000. To view the detailed list of sponsorship levels and benefits, visit chandleraz.gov/diversity
