Newest Chandler Fry’s Food Store to Feature Original Mural by Local Artist<

The City of Chandler Public Art Program and the Chandler Arts Commission, in partnership with Fry’s Food Stores, commissioned Valley-based artist Kyllan Maney to create a mural in the newest Fry’s Marketplace. The new store, located at 2929 East Ocotillo Road in Chandler, Arizona is scheduled to open at 7 a.m. with a celebration and ribbon cutting at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, October 21.

Kyllan Maney was chosen from among 19 area artists who applied for the $7,500 commission to paint the 12 ft. wide by 5 ft. high mural. “We invite our neighbors to join us on October 21 and see this incredible work of art. Kyllan will be attending our ribbon-cutting ceremony and unveil her mural following the ceremony”, said Fry’s Food Stores President Steve McKinney. The title of the mural is Chandler Sunrise. Kyllan drew inspiration from elements of the Chandler community and her mural is influenced by her series of artworks that integrate maps and radial patterns. The artist sees maps as the structure of the community that holds a memory of time and place. The radial pattern is the energy of the community working together building stronger relationships and quality of life.

Kyllan Maney is a dexterous muralist, creative place-maker and fine artist who enjoys community involved projects. She has created a number of large scale murals across the valley along with developing interactive art and exhibits her work at galleries and museums. Kyllan has a Bachelor’s of Fine Art from Arizona State University and has interned at the Smithsonian Institution, Natural History Museum. Along with being an artist, Kyllan currently is mentoring future artists at New School for the Arts and Academics.

“Kyllan’s mural is a unique example of the artist’s style and vision. A dynamic display of color and form that is Chandler.” Said Eric Faulhaber, Public Art Coordinator for the City of Chandler, which ran the process of selecting the artist. “We’re pleased that Fry’s is taking the lead in bolstering community connections between private development and the arts through mural commissions like this one.”
