These Are Not Your Grandmother’s Quilts: The Art Works of Marla Hattabaugh

Nov. 18, 2016 – Jan. 7, 2017
Opening Reception: Friday, November 18, 2016, 5:30-7 p.m.

These Are Not Your Grandmother’s Quilts: The Art Works of Marla Hattabaugh opens at the Vision Gallery and runs from Nov. 18, 2016 - Jan. 7, 2017. The exhibit focuses on the artworks of Marla Hattabaugh, whose passion in art is quilting. Marla has displayed her art quilts in shows across Europe and the United States, and has been greatly involved with the Arizona Quilters Guild, Arizona Designer Craftsmen and the Quilt/Surface Design Symposium.

“Quilting is one of my main obsessions/passions. It gives me friends, laughter, visual stimulation, travel opportunities, and ‘alone time.’ Sometimes the challenge of getting the top to lay smooth regardless of how many seams come together is a great problem; other times, everything goes together so smoothly that the thirty years I've spent doing it seem warranted!

“Most of the fabric I use is hand-processed ... dyed using Procion MX, silk screened, deconstructed, printed, painted, stamped, or otherwise done as a one of a kind project. Sometimes I buy the material, sometimes I print it myself. Surface Design is a source of delight as I find exactly the right color/shape for a spot in a quilt,” says Marla Hattabaugh

The exhibit opens at the Vision Gallery with an Artist Reception on Friday, Nov. 18, from 5:30-7 p.m. The evening event is free and open to the public, and the exhibit will run through Jan. 7, 2017.
