Tips for keeping your child safe from potential threats
The Chandler Police Department would like to offer tips for parents, when speaking to their children about stranger-danger and other potential threats to their safety:

A child should never walk alone. A group of children offers safety in numbers.

If your child walks to and from school, church, or any other location on a regular basis, establish a route for your child to take. Make sure your child knows the street names of their route, and ensure they use the same route on a daily basis.

Discourage your child from using alleys, greenbelts, or less traveled roadways for getting around. Walking or riding on a well-traveled neighborhood street allows the greatest visibility.

Safety requires constant vigilance. Children should be aware of their surroundings at all times. This includes suspicious people, vehicles, or uncomfortable locations they may pass by.

Encourage your child to act on their impulse to run away if their gut feeling tells them to.
If your child finds themselves in a threatening situation, let them know it’s okay to run, yell, and attract as much attention upon themselves as possible.

El Departamento de Policía de Chandler desea ofrecer consejos a los padres de familia, para que hablen con sus hijos con respecto al peligro que representan las personas desconocidas y otras amenazas potenciales a su seguridad:

Un/a niño/a nunca debe caminar solo/a por la calle. Un grupo de niños ofrece seguridad debido a la cantidad.

Si su hijo/a camina a y de la escuela, iglesia, o cualquier otro lugar regularmente, establezca una ruta para que él o ella la tome. Asegúrese de que su niño/a sepa los nombres de las calles de su ruta, y asegúrese de que use la misma ruta diariamente.

Desanime a su hijo/a con respecto a usar callejones, áreas verdes, o caminos poco transitados para movilizarse. Caminar o andar en bicicleta en calles bien transitadas del vecindario les dan mayor visibilidad.

La seguridad requiere vigilancia constante. Los niños deben estar alertas con respecto a sus alrededores en todo momento. Esto incluye a gente o vehículos sospechosos, o ubicaciones incómodas por las que puedan pasar.

Anime a su hijo/a para que actúe en su impulso de escapar siguiendo sus instintos.

Si su hijo/a se encuentra en una situación amenazante, dígales que está bien correr, gritar y llamar la atención tanto como puedan.
