Chandler City Clerk to Stop Issuing Marriage Licenses
CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Chandler City Clerk’s office will discontinue its practice of issuing marriage licenses, effective Dec. 31, 2009. Chandler is the only City Clerk in Maricopa County to issue marriage licenses, and is suspending the service.
While the fee for the license is $72, the city retains only $1.50 per license, or about $2,100 a year, and spends about an equivalent amount of time on administration of the licenses. While Chandler taxpayers pay for the City service, about only bout half of the licenses are issued to Chandler residents. |
