Public meetings offer residents opportunity to provide input on new Chandler Museum
The City of Chandler is holding three public meetings in November to solicit input from residents about the scope and design of the new Chandler Museum, expected to open in downtown Chandler in late 2012. Comments from these public meetings will structure the conceptual design of the Museum that will be presented to the City Council in January 2010.
The meetings are being held in west, southern and central portions of the community and at various times in an effort to attract a broad range of resident opinion. The schedule is as follows:
- Thursday, November 12, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the Desert Breeze Police Substation’s Community Room at 251 N. Desert Breeze Blvd. West (north of Chandler Blvd., between McClintock and Rural roads).
- Saturday, November 14, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the Snedigar Recreation Center (Multipurpose Rooms 504, 505 and 506) at 4500 S. Basha Rd. (east of Alma School Rd., between Ocotillo and Chandler Heights roads).
- Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at the Chandler Senior Center, 202 E. Boston St. (east of Arizona Ave., between Chandler Blvd. and Frye Rd.).
Chandler voters have approved $13 million in bonds in recent years to build the new 20-25,000-sq.ft. facility, which will replace the existing Museum at 178 E. Commonwealth Ave. The new Museum will be built along Washington St. and adjacent to the new City Hall currently under construction.
“We want to find out what Chandler residents want in their museum; what would make them want to visit and what would they expect to see,” said Museum Administrator Jody Crago. The City has contracted with SmithGroup to hold the public meetings and use the feedback to craft a new vision and mission for the Museum.
“This Museum will be a resource for our community to explore its history and culture, and we want a mission that honors our past, and sets us on an innovative path to the future,” Crago said. “We need individuals, families and groups within the community to attend these meetings and join us as partners in this exciting project.”
