The Chandler City Council met at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009. The Council voted on 62 items, 61 of which were approved as part of the Consent Agenda, including three continuances.
These items were approved by the Council:
- Granted a lease to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley for the new city-owned facility that they will occupy at 300 E. Chandler Boulevard.
- Authorized two Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) with Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) for the appropriation of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds for the following projects:
- $3,678,899 for the rehabilitation of a section of Price Road from Germann Road to Dobson Road.
- $2,288,700 for intersection capacity improvements at Chandler Blvd. and Dobson Road for work from Frye rd. to Chandler Blvd.
- Authorized an agreement with The Cooperative Purchasing Network that will enable the City to purchase some items at large volume discounts.
- Authorized an agreement with Motorola Inc. for $7,915,562.31 to implement and upgrade the current police and fire radio system in order to join the Regional Wireless Cooperative (RWC) and enable interoperability between each department and several agencies in the valley.
- Approved grant agreements with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for $328,000 to be used for emergency preparedness.
- Approved the purchase of a street sweeper from TYMCO International for an amount not to exceed $181,622.18. Most of this funding comes from a dust mitigation grant from the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG).
- Approved a plan to allow the developer to alter the housing product offered for the Amberwood Heights subdivisions located in the vicinity of Gilbert and Chandler Heights roads. A similar proposal for the nearby Reid’s Ranch subdivision was rejected.
Mayor Dunn and members of the Council closed the meeting with news on several upcoming events, including two events this Saturday, Oct. 24: Live Love Day, and the Star Party at Veterans Oasis Park. The grand opening of the new Boys & Girls Club will be on November 16. A new history kiosk honoring Chandler’s World War II veterans will be dedicated in Dr. A.J. Chandler Park on November 11 at 12:30 p.m. Mayor Dunn also mentioned that Chandler was recently named a “Bicycle Friendly Community” for the third time.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:27 p.m. The next City Council Meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2009.
