Results of the October 19, 2009, City Council Meeting

The Chandler City Council met at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2009. In addition to approving minutes from their previous meetings, the Council voted on four items, all of which were approved as part of the Consent Agenda.

These items were approved by the Council:
  • Adopted changes to Chapter 39 (Sign Code) of the Chandler City Code, by amending Section 39-10 (Temporary Signs) amending/adding language within this section pertaining to certain types of temporary signage. This temporary easing of the sign code to allow additional signage was originally brought forward at the request of Mayor Dunn in an effort to help local businesses during the current economic downturn.
  • Adopted the rezoning from Planned Industrial District (I-1) to PAD with a mid-rise overlay, with Preliminary Development Plan approval, for an office, retail, and light industrial development with potential hotel/conference center uses on 22 acres at the SEC of Chandler Boulevard and the Loop 101 Price Freeway.
  • Authorized a condemnation settlement agreement in the City of Chandler v. JVL, Inc., d/b/a Lloyds Complete Auto Supply in the sum of $2,300,000.00, plus statutory interest.
  • Amended the condominium plat for Santan Crossing Professional Plaza to allow for a single office condominium building within a larger office condominium development located east of the SEC of Cooper and Pecos roads.
Mayor Dunn opened the meeting by recognizing the corporations, service clubs, families and individuals who have participated in the City’s Adopt-A-Park Program for the previous year.

Mayor Dunn also welcomed Judge Keith Frankel of the San Marcos Court/San Tan Justice Court, who gave an annual report on the court operations. Judge Frankel said that his staff is considering whether to begin offering marriage license services and is reviewing all options.

Mayor Dunn closed the meeting with news on several upcoming events, including three events this Saturday, Oct. 24: Live Love Day, GAIN Night, and the Corvette Club of Arizona’s All-Chevy Car Show in downtown Chandler. The Halloween Spooktacular will be on Oct. 30 at the Community Center. And Mayor Dunn invited the public to visit the new Chandler Fire Department Web site at www.chandleraz.gov/fire.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:45 p.m. The next City Council Meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009.
