Comment sought on early phase of Arizona Ave. design CHANDLER, Ariz. – The public will have an opportunity to comment on the 30 percent design plans for improving Arizona Avenue between Chandler Boulevard and Frye Road at a 6 p.m. meeting to be held Tuesday, September 8, at the Chandler Police Department Community Room, 250 E. Chicago Street. The streetscape improvements are the initial steps in a larger vision endorsed by the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Chandler Community Partnership to develop a pedestrian friendly feel to the City’s core and a new entryway, or “front door”, into downtown from the Loop 202/San Tan Freeway. Following a recommendation by the Chandler Transportation Commission, the City Council approved an alignment on June 22 that will maintain four lanes of traffic along Arizona Avenue between Frye and Chandler Blvd (two in each direction). Detailed design work on the enhanced streetscape and landscape elements has occurred since June and includes wider sidewalks, bicycle lanes and additional on-street parking. The meeting will include an overview of the design and provide downtown businesses, property owners and other interested persons with an opportunity to ask questions and provide input to the design team.
