The Chandler Acts of Kindness donation program, or A-OK for short, was developed in July 2000 to give residents an opportunity to voluntarily contribute $1, $2, $5 or more with their utility payment each month. Here is a look at some frequently asked questions about the A-OK Program.
How can I participate in Chandler’s Acts of Kindness Program?
The easiest way to make a donation is to set up a recurring donation -- $1, $2, $5 or you can opt for any fixed amount you would like -- that would always be added to your monthly billing statement. With a recurring donation, no matter how you pay the donation will be made by simply paying your current balance (which will include the donation amount). To set up a recurring donation you need to notify us -- either via email at email@example.com, by calling 480-782-2280, or you can visit us at Chandler City Hall, 171 S. What if I don’t want to participate in Chandler’s Act of Kindness Program?
The Chandler’s A-OK program is completely voluntary. If you do not wish to participate, simply pay the “Total Utility Amount Due.”
What if I want to donate more than $1, $2 or $5 per month to Chandler’s Acts of Kindness Program?
Set up a recurring donation in any amount by speaking with a customer service representative -- via a phone call to 480-782-2280 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org
. If you pay by check, you can add larger amounts to your monthly utility bill balance, however the City of Chandler cannot assume that overpayments are intended to be A-OK donations. If you desire to make a larger donation, you must inform the City of your intent by calling 480-782-2280 or sending an email to email@example.com. Donations in any amount can be made at the customer service counter in City Hall at 175 S. Arizona Avenue. Direct donations can also be made by check and made out to:

Why can’t I donate more than $1, $2 or $5 on my utility bill payment?
The City’s billing system will only recognize exactly $1, $2 or $5 over the “Total Utility Amount Due.” Any other amount over $1, $2 or $5 will show as a credit on your next month’s utility bill. Instead, follow the procedure in the answer above.
What human service agencies does Chandler’s Acts of Kindness assist?
Non-profit agencies that provide essential services such as food, shelter, clothing, medical services and transportation to Chandler low-income citizens are eligible to apply for funding from the Acts of Kindness program.
Why doesn’t the City fund these programs?
The City of Chandler currently funds more than $807,000 to local human services agencies, but the need is far greater than what the City can provide.
Can individuals apply for assistance through Chandler’s Acts of Kindness Program?
No. Only non-profit 501 (c)(3) organizations that serve Chandler residents may apply.
Who decides how Chandler’s Acts of Kindness Program funds will be spent?
Chandler’s Housing and Human Services Commission reviews all applications and make final allocation decisions for Acts of Kindness funding.
Will any of the money be used to pay for administrative costs?
No. All donated funds will be allocated to human service agencies that serve low-income Chandler residents.
Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes. Contributors will receive a year-end total of their donations in their January utility statement that will serve as records for tax purposes.
